A closer look at the print
The central subject is a nude male figure positioned with limbs extended to touch the boundaries of a circle and a square. Fine ink lines detail the musculature and posture of the subject against a textured, yellowed background. Surrounding the figure are dense paragraphs of cursive script that appear to be mathematical observations or notes. The style replicates the look of a 15th-century vellum manuscript rather than a modern digital graphic. This artwork belongs to the genre of Renaissance scientific illustration and anatomical drawing. Every element combines to create a study of symmetry and natural geometry.
